State symbols
The emblem, flag and anthem symbolise the independence and sovereignty of the Republic of Uzbekistan. Respect for them is every citizen’s duty and an important part of school education.
State Emblem
The law on the State Emblem was adopted at the tenth session of the Supreme Council of the Republic of Uzbekistan. The emblem shows the sun rising over a flourishing valley with mountains and rivers, framed by a wreath of wheat ears and cotton branches.
- The Humo bird with outspread wings in the centre — a symbol of happiness and love of freedom.
- The octagon with a crescent and star at the top — a sign of the republic’s establishment.
- The sun — a wish for a bright path for the state and a sign of the country’s natural conditions.
- Wheat ears stand for bread; cotton branches with open bolls for the country’s main wealth and the unity of its peoples.
- A ribbon in the colours of the national flag binds the wreath.
State Flag
The law on the State Flag was adopted at the eighth session of the Supreme Council. The flag has three horizontal stripes — blue, white and green — separated by thin red stripes. Near the hoist, the blue stripe carries a white crescent and 12 white stars.
- Blue — the sky and clean water; azure has long been revered in the East.
- White — peace and purity, a wish for a bright path.
- Green — nature and the renewal of life.
- Red stripes — the vital force of the people.
- ☾The crescent — the people’s centuries-old traditions; together with the stars, a peaceful cloudless sky.
- ★The 12 stars — a sign of perfection.
State Anthem
The law on the State Anthem was adopted at the eleventh session of the Supreme Council. The anthem is a symbol of state sovereignty. It is played at official ceremonies, including school assemblies, and performed only in its approved text and music.
